Advice for dealing with common problems - Forum and Game

General

Remember at all times that the Forum is intended to be viewable by users of all ages and all content should be family friendly. Posts should follow the Forum rules (http://archive.forum.travian.co.uk/announcement.php?f=48&a=43)

The General forum is intended for a wide range of questions and issues relating to the Travian game, the forum and IRC. Please remember that questions concerning individual bans or punishments (game or forum) are not allowed. Such questions should be directed to the Moderator or Multihunter that is dealing with you.

Advice for posting on the forum

Spelling and Grammar
Please ensure that your posts are clear and easy to read. Given that many forum users don't speak English as their primary language, perfect grammar and spelling isn't required, but the basics make posts far easier to comprehend. Posting in ALL-CAPS, Initial Letter Capitalisation For Every Word also makes it difficult to read.

Codes
Posting in a variety of different colours and different fonts makes your post difficult to read, so please avoid it. Small sections of colour / font codes are fine for emphasis. Also, red, orange and purple are reserved for the staff (see Forum Rules (http://archive.forum.travian.co.uk/announcement.php?f=48&a=40)).


Content

Topic Creation
When posting a new topic, especially a question, use the Search function (http://archive.forum.travian.co.uk/search.php) to see if the topic has already been created. This can cut down on the effort you spend, the effort of those who reply, and the effort spent by moderation staff in pointing you in the right direction. The same goes for posting topics in the wrong section. Making your the title and initial post content of your topic clear will also greatly improve the likelihood that the people who know the answer to your question will seek your thread out

Post relevance
Please ensure sure your posts are relevant to the topic at hand. If you wish to ask a question unrelated to the original one, either create a new thread, or find a currently existing thread that already deals with the new topic. Posting irrelevant things makes it harder to read and find any answers as well as cluttering up the page. Be warned: the moderation staff will typically delete any posts they encounter that are off-topic.

Replies
When answering questions, please bear in mind any previous replies and do not unnecessarily repeat what others have said. Additionally, explaining the immediate consequences of your answer or linking to the appropriate rule/FAQ page can be more helpful than a simple yes or no.

When quoting particularly long posts, please avoid copying all of it unnecessarily as this adds to the post length without adding any real benefit. Additionally, if you wish to make any new comments, please place them outside of the quote tags as it makes the post easier to read.

If a thread was posted some time ago and has already been sufficiently discussed or answered, please don't post in the topic as it does not normally add anything of value (sometimes called "Thread Necromancy" or "Thread Resurrection).

Staff

Remember that both the Forum and Game staff are volunteers, and most of them are players. Don't be surprised to see them weighing in on a topic acting out of their own concerns and not representing the views of Travian as a whole, especially concerning the servers they play on. That said, when acting in their capacity as staff (normally recognisable by their text being red when enforcing Forum rules, orange when clarifying Game rules and purple when acting in an administrative capacity), they can normally be considered an authority on the matter at hand.

If you are being raided a lot in game; this post contains some hints and tips for you - we were all new once!

As much as we would love for new (and existing) Travian players to be able to start and play servers without coming under attacking this is unfortunately not the case as Travian is under all the graphics a war and battle based game. However don't be disheartened, there are many things you can do to improve your situation and learn more about the game.

What Can I do to Stop Being Raided?

In most cases, a raider is after one thing, resources, if you can stop a raider getting resources when he comes to raid you then there's a very good chance you won't be raided again. The easest way to do this is to build crannies which cover more resources than you can hold in your warehouse.

Try talking to your raider, there's a pretty decent chance if they know that you are a nice person who is willing to learn about the game that they might stop raiding you and might even give you advice and help in the game.

If you have been banned then please read our following advice on the before making a post as it is important you know where to post your issues or whether the forum rules permit you to post certain questions.

Regarding Bans:

If you have received a ban in game you are not allowed to discuss it on the forums, if you believe it was unfair you must appeal your case to the relevant multihunter on the server. If you believe you were unfairly banned and the multihunter in question has made the wrong decision you can appeal the ban by send an email to admin@travian.co.uk who has the ability to review cases. Any posts on the forum will most likely lead to deletion of the thread and possibly even an infraction for those who mention case specific details.

However posts regarding the rules and whether you believe certain things should or should not receive bans or punishments are generally accepted however make sure you do not stray over the line and use case specific details and also make sure your thread follows the Forum rules (http://archive.forum.travian.co.uk/announcement.php?f=48&a=43).

Slow Staff Responses:

This is another commonly reported issue on the forum, if you don't believe a staff member has responded quickly enough then consider all of the following.

All staff members (except the admin) are volunteers and are therefore not tied to specific hours, so do not expect immediate replies from staff.

Did your query actually need a reply? If you are reporting another member of the game or forum for breaking the rules you may not receive a response because once someone receives a punishment the details become confidential.

How long since you since you sent the message? All Travian staff members are expected to respond to messages within 24 hours, so feel free to send another message after the first 24 hours have passed but do not spam the inboxes of staff members. If they still do not reply then you can try contacting the forum admin or the game admin depending on your problem.

All in game messages to crew show as being read instantly because of the software used to manage them. So being read does not mean action has been taken yet (or that a human has seen them) so don't worry if something is read then it will be actioned upon if needed, nothing will be forgotten.
