THE GUIDE TO MAKING A GUIDE
1. Title
2. Content
3. Formatting
§1 Topic title
a) Make sure the title is clear and summarizes your guide effectively.
b) Use rhetorical questions to help players find what they are looking for.
c) Don't write "my guide", or "help for players". Titles must be specific.
d) Always add a Prefix, and ensure you are using the correct one.
e) Do not use CAPITAL LETTERS or **symbols** to try and make your guide stand out from another.
§2 Content
a) Use clear wording; make sure that if you write a guide for the total n00b, the person won't know what a sitter is, what an alliance does.. etc.
b) Know what you are talking about; if you don't, post a short guide and ask others to improve it
c) Add pictures to clarify things, not because they're fun. Make sure images are sized within reason and annotated properly. If you need an image made for you, just ask! Many users are willing to help out
d) Don't talk about multiple subjects at once; the guide should be written in chronological order.
e) Don't use different letter sizes every time you type; keep the standard forum font.
f) Spell check and grammar check; DON'T TYPE IN CAPSLOCK or overuse...... punctuation!!!!!!
g) Don't use smileys; these count toward your 25 images and look unprofessional. :P
§3 Formatting
a) Make use of bold and underline. Use bold for subheadings, and underline to accentuate a point.
b) Do not use Quote tags, if you need to credit another player, do so at the bottom.
c) Create a table of contents if necessary.
d) You may link to other guides if something within your own needs further explanation.
e) Keep your guide left alligned to suit all web browsers.
f) Make good use of paragraphs and spacing, to allow skim reading.
Thank you for making a guide!
