The siege workshop is the building used within travian for siege weapons, once this is constructed you can build catapults or rams within that village. The higher the level of the workshop, the faster the units will be trained. Unlike the Barracks and the Stable there is no such thing as a Great Siege Workshop, and therefore catapults and rams take longer to train. To build a Siege Workshop you need a academy level 10 and a main building level 5. Then a Siege Workshop can be built, the costs are shown below
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww97/Mrl_Travian/SWcost.png
Rams can be built at level 1, and catapults at level 10. This is only after researched in the academy.
§1.3 Rams & Catapults
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww97/Mrl_Travian/RC.png
Rams and especially catapults play a key part in the game, without them the game could not end, no villages would be chiefed, no one zeroed, and no need to ever defend an attack.
Any good player will always invest in catapults and rams, and all good hammers will include them both. However they’re not the cheapest things you’ll ever build, so getting the right amount is what you need to work on.
§1.3A Rams
Rams can be researched once your Siege Workshop is built (level 1), to research you will need a level 10 academy.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww97/Mrl_Travian/RCBR.png
Above are the research costs, and individual building costs of battering rams for each tribe.
The Gaul ram has a attack of 50, the Roman ram 60, and the Teuton ram 65, therefore for sheer attack power in rams a Teuton ram is the best.
However this will not affect how many levels a wall is brought down, but if the rams run into troops more teuton rams would survive than gaul rams.
When using rams we have to bear in mind how many we are going to need to do any damage, there are a few tables about, but THIS (http://travian.wikia.com/wiki/Ram) is what I use.
§1.3B Catapults
Catapults play a vital part in the game and you should always invest in them at some point on the server, for new players, they can be a very expensive investment, and it’s sometimes best to do in stages. Unlike rams they require a level 10 Siege Workshop and a level 15 Academy before you can research them, and even then they are not cheap, and nor are they cheap to feed, each catapult eats 6 wheat a hour, which adds up very quickly, you’ll have to decide if they’re really worth it.
Roman - Fire Catapult - Build Cost 950 1350 600 90
Teuton - Catapult - Build Cost 900 1200 600 60
Gaul - Trebuchet - Build Cost 960 1450 630 90
Each catapult brings down a building in different levels, and have other specifics, for more information these 3 pages could be helpful. Teuton Catapult (http://travian.wikia.com/wiki/Catapult), Gaul Trebuchet (http://travian.wikia.com/wiki/Trebuchet), Roman Fire Catapult (http://travian.wikia.com/wiki/Fire_Catapult)
Once you advance in the game, all good players upgrade their rally points, the higher the level of the rally point, the more buildings can be targeted.
http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww97/Mrl_Travian/Target.png
At level 10 every building but the Trapper, cranny and stonemason can be targeted. These buildings can never be selected. At level 20, if you send more than 20 catapults/fire catapults/trebuchets then you can target two things in one attack. I would reccomend sending more than 20 though, otherwise the damage would be limited, if any to high level buildings. The level of the rally point only effects the catapults built in that particular village.
§1.3C Tournament Square
The Tournament Square can be built in a village once that village has a level 15 rally point. The building, sometimes known as TS, Tourny or Tourny Square affects how fast your troops travel after 30 squares, this is brilliant for catapults considering how slow they are, at level 20 the velocity of your troops reaches 300%, excellent for catapults targeting things such as WWs, which could be the other side of the map.
