See I dont think we *actually* disagree in principle ...

You don't expect people to leave them undefended for 24 hours etc

I expect to be helpful and change it's name to Chiefed
(and generally message people who are attacking *at the time* subject to me being online (I usually would be if I had chiefed tho)

But I think it's about mutual respect

People seem to think there is *one correct way* to deal with this issue, and it's always theirs ....

Hmm, I may have misread you. Anyways, I do see it as a mutual form of respect too - I always notify people raiding my chiefed village, and thank them when they remove. Also thanking people who notify me.

As an added bonus to that, if I notice an opponent is always polite and notifies me, I am less inclined to make him the target of a bombing run at a later stage. Proper use of the term 'a little kindness goes a long way'

As previously mentioned, its a pointless debate,
There are people who believe deffing newly chiefed farms a tactic used by scum/ what ever other insult you can think of (but you have to be careful there, I've been infracted for calling people a traditional English name for doing it)
Then there are the ones who stick to their excuse of "its not in the rules that I have to do it"
If it bothers you that much stop raiding, I did and it hasn't affected my game at all
tormentor - As for replying to other posts, I really cannot stand the stench, even the nose plugs are not stopping it.

listers losers - Does that mean youve taken off the gimp mask?
